WORLD CLASS DANISH JAZZ VIOLINIST TO PERFORM IN DC
Two-time Grammy Award winning violinist, violist, and composer Mads Tolling will be playing two shows at DC jazz club Blues Alley on Tuesday, January 26.
Mads Tolling is a leading innovator in string playing. He fuses jazz, funk, classical, fusion and Danish folk and has even recorded his own renditions of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” and Radiohead’s “Just.”
Born and raised in Copenhagen, Mads moved to Boston to study at Berkeley College of Music. Mads was immediately recognized as a fresh voice in jazz, and his career went into full swing performing with top artists such as Al Di Meola, Kenny Barron, Paquito d’Rivera and Leo Kottke.
Mads’ sophomore CD release “The Playmaker” features jazz greats Russell Ferrante and Stanley Clarke along with vibes extraordinaire Stefon Harris. Hear these leading musicians along with a violinist who views his instrument as part fiddle, part saxophone, part acoustic and electric violin.
Mads has recently been featured on NPR's Morning Edtion, Performance Today, in the San Francisco Chronicle, JazzTimes & All About Jazz.
